UNLV Early Childhood Education Center

UNLV Early Childhood Education Center

The Lynn Bennett Early Childhood Education Center is a vital resource to the UNLV campus and community, serving as the UNLV/CSUN Preschool, a program of the UNLV Department of Educational and Clinical Studies. This nurturing, inclusive learning community serves children from birth through age 5, while also providing learning and research opportunities for UNLV students and faculty. Since its opening in 2004, enrollment has reached capacity and has now reached the point where additional demand is roughly equal to the current enrollment. The project began with an architectural feasibility study, which assessed the feasibility of doubling the program’s current capacity, to allow the facility to meet current demand. Working with Preschool administration, and representatives from UNLV’s School of Education, Development and Design and Construction groups, our team of design professionals have studied the existing facility in sufficient detail to understand the existing facility’s needs, and to explore multiple options for the facility to accommodate the additional capacity. The study effort began with multiple visits to the facility and an extensive sharing of information by Preschool administration and Design and Construction personnel. Operational practices, licensing and accreditation needs, and facility condition and character were all discussed.
