RTC Downtown Summerlin Transit Shelters

RTC Downtown Summerlin Transit Shelters

The Downtown Summerlin Transit Shelters are part of a series of showcase transit amenities, designed to enhance the day-to-day experience of transit ridership and to project a positive image of transit to the Las Vegas community. Within a people-friendly streetside plaza, shade is provided by interlocking V-shaped canopies tapered to appear as thin and light as possible. The shelters’ material palette includes an expressive locally sourced sandstone, reflective of the natural beauty of the nearby mountains. The stone contrasts strikingly against sleek prefinished metal elements representative of a forward-looking transit system. A series of granite benches at the rear of the plaza incorporate dramatically backlit metal panels, perforated with images of the surrounding nature and further exploring the thematic fusion of nature and the city that gives Summerlin its sense of place.
