This master plan for the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, an arts-focused magnet high school containing several historic buildings, strikes a respectful contrast between new and historic development. A mid-rise level of density, appropriate to the school’s downtown location, creates open space and facilitates movement throughout the campus. The arrangement and relationships of program elements are focused on creating indoor and outdoor spaces that promote learning, collaboration, and artistic freedom, core to the school’s purpose and culture, while bringing departments together and forming a secure campus to enhance student safety. Spaces such as museums, galleries and theaters are focused outwards to encourage connections between students and a vibrant arts community.
