The Coushatta Tribal Education Center is designed to serve a range of ages and needs for the tribal community. A pre-school provides a home to children from ages 2 through 5, in classrooms featuring clerestory windows for natural light, and a playground connected to the interior by an outdoor breezeway. At the center of the campus, a community events center provides a venue for gatherings of up to 50 people. A library and another set of classrooms serve various education and training needs for older youths and the adult population. A coffee shop adjacent to the library provides a day-to-day gathering place which features a special room for community elders. Building materials of stone and fiber cement relate respectfully to other buildings in the community while providing a modern look. Building volumes set at angles help to direct circulation flow and express the various functions within.
