Coushatta Buffalo Run General Store

Coushatta Buffalo Run General Store

This project was a general store and gas station for the community of Elton, Louisiana, which is on the Coushatta Tribal reservation and is home to many members of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.

kga had the privilege of designing this 4,700 square foot facility that incorporates significant cultural elements of the Koasati language, Tribally handcrafted pine needle basketry and other native arts and crafts in the retail store component.

The facility includes three fuel pumps, a sundries store, a full service kitchen serving local and regional favorites as well as samples of traditional Coushatta cuisine, a Native arts and craft shop, and an outdoor viewing area that overlooks the grazing area for the Tribe’s small herd of buffalo.
