Our proposed design stemmed from innate pragmatism which guided and streamlined the design approach. Purity and simplicity of the experience is what we set out to achieve. Integration of building types were chosen so that each would leverage its strength. Metal building to fulfill the long-span requirement, the Tilt-Up Concrete façade for environmental responsibilities and efficiency, then the steel and glass portion for the articulations at the welcoming experience of the entry sequence and the Food and Beverage venue. All the different typologies presence even in areas where traditional framed View Decks are housed within the volume of the Metal Building. The transition points between building types were also intentionally configured to not require additional height, thereby saving on extra materials which would otherwise be required, and also to deliver the opportunity for daylighting through clerestory windows to light the middle portion of this sizable footprint. Although with the effort to retain simplicity and efficiency, with Sports and Athleticism being key, the proposed facility could not feel complete without exuding the sense of dynamism and movement. In order to be truly efficient, we sought throughout the design process to devise design elements which are multi-faceted, serving dual or multiple purposes. After several studies for concept of integration between Running Tracks to other sports components, we landed on separating the Running Track above have been carefully assembled to deliver the seamless experience; column lines belonging to the different systems are synchronized to minimize their component away from the Courts and Fields with the simplicity of metal building structure and Spectators dedicated areas and potential risk of circulation disruption. The Running Track has been presented as an enclosed, conditioned space that feels simultaneously indoor/outdoor with the experience alternating from peering out towards the Strip View and city light to people watching from the Central Atrium; the Tracks’ volume is simply suspended above and serving double duty as a dynamic Porte Cochere. The ultimate aim is to propose a series of meaningful and carefully-orchestrated spatial dialogues to offer privacy where mandated and yet deliver the opportunities to see and be seen expected of public facilities.
